What's Included
We've thought carefully about what makes a mountain stay truly enjoyable — a well-stocked kitchen, roasting skewers for creekside evenings, and games for all ages.
The Property
Compass Creek Cabin sits in a quiet hollow deep in the Nantahala National Forest — perfectly situated between Hayesville, NC and Hiawassee, GA. The creek runs just steps from the cabin door, close enough to hear from your bed on a still night. Wake up to the sound of water over smooth river stones. Fall asleep under a canopy of old-growth trees and rhododendron. Worlds apart from the everyday hustle — yet easy to find with no treacherous roads to navigate.
Who comes to Compass Creek
Kids who love to wade in the creek, catch fireflies, play cornhole and disc golf, and fall asleep tired and happy. Parents who love watching it happen. The ultimate screen-free getaway — nature does the entertaining. The log dining table seats all 8 for a special family dinner.
The sound of rushing creek water, birdsong, and wind through the trees. No traffic, no noise, no demands. Whether you're burned out, grieving, healing, or just long overdue for stillness — the forest and the creek have a way of restoring what the world takes away.
The primary suite is genuinely romantic — hanging lanterns on each side of the bed, private porch access, a soaker tub, and a river rock shower. Perfect for anniversaries, reconnection weekends, or simply escaping together. Off-season rates (fall, winter & spring) make it especially ideal when the kids are in school.
From Thanksgiving through early January, the cabin is decorated for the season — Christmas tree, garland with white lights in the living room, and more garland in the dining room. A warm, magical setting for Christmas, New Year's, Hanukkah, or any winter celebration around the log dining table.
Adirondack chairs around the creekside fire pit, a wraparound porch with a swing, and a beautiful log dining table that seats 8 — perfect for catching up, telling stories, and lingering over a meal. Whether it's a reunion, a guys' trip, or a girls' getaway, this is the kind of place conversations last all night.
Compass Creek — a hidden gem wild trout stream — runs right out the back door. Within 30 minutes you're on the Hiwassee River tailwater and miles of trout-rich streams rated among the best in North Carolina. A fly fisher's base camp that's hard to beat.
You're in the heart of legendary US motorcycle riding. Rockcrusher Farm technical park and scenic mountain byways are 15–20 minutes away. World-famous technical curves are 30–90 minutes out. Come back to the cabin, sit by the creek, and do it all again tomorrow.
The Jackrabbit Recreation Area near Lake Chatuge offers a fun, flowy 11-mile loop — great for intermediate riders with stunning mountain scenery. Miles of additional uncrowded trails throughout the Nantahala National Forest are right on your doorstep.

Guest Reviews
We absolutely loved our stay at the cabin! The property is just amazing, especially the serene creek and forest. Cynthia was the most communicative host I've encountered which helped make the trip easy start to finish — including a needed date change last minute! We will definitely be back.
We booked last minute and it turned out to be an absolute gem! Tucked away in a beautifully secluded spot on a peaceful creek — perfect for our family with four small children. The outdoor space was a dream, the kids had a blast with cornhole and frisbee golf, and the hosts thought of everything. If you're looking for a private getaway surrounded by nature but packed with family-friendly fun, this is the place.
Cynthia's place looks just like the photos — probably even better, because the photos don't capture the beautiful sound of the creek or the twinkle of fireflies in the evening. My son didn't even want to leave, he just wanted to play in the creek. The kitchen has everything you need, the TV has Netflix and cable, the beds were great, and the couch was cozy and big enough for all 5 of us. Basically as comfortable as home. The nearby towns are so cute, and Helen is within driving distance — we went twice. Very private, at almost the end of a gravel road. A great place to unplug and relax.
